Help with the Daihatsu Charade I'm selling

Postby MooseCarAudio on Thu Feb 06, 2014 12:36 pm

I Don't want to spend another DOLLAR on the little bugger before I sell it...
But It has a little issue... Im Pretty sure it's the Carburetter (Needs a rebuild... so I'm told)
but it stutters on acceleration...
it's a 1.0 litre 3 cyl motor... and it stutters... doesn't matter if its warm or cold,
it doesn't always do it... and it's only on acceleration... not at cruising.
It's missing like it's not getting steady Fuel...
Could it be lack of air... (dirty Air Filter)
Could it be dirty Spark plugs?
Or is it most likely to be the Carby???

Thoughts guys?

White 1988 Vortex XT Turbo 4WD (The one I'm currently working on)

White 1987 Vortex XT FWD NA (the one I crashed)

Silver 1987 Vortex XT Turbo 4WD (This one I call MAXX) He's got an EJ20G from a Liberty RS

i bet it's the carb. there's a reason that craptastic antiquated, fossil of a fuel delivery is no longer used in wide swathes of industry - because it sucks. i strongly dislike them and want a direct injected diesel weed eater and chain saw. LOL.

okay, my severe distaste (PUKE) of carbs aside - did it sit for any length of time? if so, then that actually suggests looking into cleaning the ($!*(&(*!&^#!!!!) carbs.

i'd try a simple/basic carb clean up first.

1. any check engine light?
2. spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor, and cap - how many miles and what is the recommended interval?

for complete disclosure i don't favor carbs.

lol

.....so tell us how you REALLY Feel about carbs Gary   ...hehe..

Carbs are ok......IF they are operating correctly  ....but as they age, and especially with the gas we now get, they will deteriorate, and it's getting harder and harder to find a "Good" carb guy....

Now... First of all... I'm not comparing my lil Econobox to these cars...
But what about Cars like say the Nissan/Datsun 432 Fairlady 240Z?
or My favorite car of ALL TIME the 1967 Ferrari 330P4?
Lamborghini's, Ferrari's ... anything older...
I know they require a skill that is being lost and can be a bit of a pain
But there is something so sexy about a side draft Webber 4 barrel on a Hakosuka or Kenmeri Skyline
lol

the car did sit for almost a year... but I did have some Carby issues with it before I parked it...
And I was told I'd need to have it Rebuilt ($250 quoted by the "best"place in town)
I Just spent $230 for a set of four tires
Spent $60 on muffler repairs (Thanks to Mark from Exhaust Technology)
$100 on new Brake pads to be fitted
I can't remember how much I spent on paint and supplies to respray the front bumper, wheelcovers and mudguards
and spent a bit more on a few replacement parts from the wrecker to tidy up the interior.
Oh yeah... The Add on Carsales $36
So lets say... over $550 for a car that will sell for less than $3000... IF THE DAMN THING EVER SELLS
I like the little beast... but I want it gone and I NEED the money... need to maximize the profit

so I DON"T want to have to spend another big chunk of cash I don't have on perfecting a car that I'm selling
But it is the ONLY thing wrong with it.... otherwise ... it's pretty damn close to new.
