anyone use a 3/8" impact wrench for lugs?

Postby grossgary on Thu Sep 26, 2013 11:40 am

can i expect a decent 3/8" impact wrench to remove most lugs?
many people online say "no way, use 1/2" only if you're doing lugs"....not being a shop and doing mostly my own stuff maybe i won't see what shops see though?

i already have a 1/2" impact but want something smaller/lighter that can still do most lugs i throw at it.

Think about it this way: Would you use a 3/8 drive socket and breaker bar to remove the lug nuts?

HA HA. brilliant way to put it John. probably lean towards the lower price spectrum then and not worry about it doing more than it should. thanks.

It's going to depend on the wrench. On the upper spectrum, I know a guy that used a Snap-On 3/8" battery powered gun for things that my 1/2" mid level HF gun would struggle with.

I think this one would struggle with most nuts. This one however should have no problem with running lug nuts off a few times a month.

great, thanks dave. that's what i'll do that professional model is cheap enough that if it's a little light weight it's still a good addition. a 3/8 Ingersoll Rand at a lot more money is not worth it to me for a maybe when i'll have 1/2" and 3/4" available too.

I've been considering getting that second one I linked for a while now. There are always 20% coupons around too, if you have trouble finding them, like them on FB and you can print one out.

I'm considering picking up that second one I linked. If you don't have any 20% coupons, go to their facebook page and you can print one out.
