Parts needed for ej swap

Postby Martin_XT on Wed Mar 02, 2016 4:37 pm

Hi im going to do a ej swap in my 88' xt 4wd turbo and need the parts to fit the ej transmission. I have been told that the parts i need is xt6 5mt transmission crossmembers/mountings.
The donor car for engine, transmission and rear diff is a 92' legacy turbo wagon with a 5 speed manual.

You "may" be able to modify the Legacy Cross member to work....worth looking into...

XT6 front and rear crossmembers bolt into '87.5+ EA82s, and allow the center crossmember from a Legacy bolt to them.

Honestly, I thought that they looked like the standard EA82 crossmembers, but with a couple extra holes. That was NOT based on a direct comparison, as I never had both available at the same time. But I think it's likely. Certainly worth some measurements, if not a full-blown test-fit.

I made a custom tranny mount using tranny mounts from the EA and 1/4" plate from memory. Wasn't that bad. With the amount of tweaking here and there, a small insignificant part like that wont take you long to do. I made a cardboard pattern first, while it was supported, took like 1/2 an hour with a grinder, big vice, welder and a drill press. I didn't have access to XT^ parts, so limited available parts for me, meant I HAD to go custom
