So snap it up, put 4 of the same tires on it, and drive the crap out of it. If i had the funds i would.

Needs a Trans...and it's a FWD Auto....Austin did have a spare transmission in his garage....

I just happen to have most of that same exact model sitting in my driveway... including a transmission!!
- Edit - Not the same. I forgot the one I have is apparently an AWD auto. Its been sitting under the tarp for a few years. Should the transmission be swappable without doing an AWD conversion?

Anyone want to buy my 93 SVX? My wife will kill me if.. when I put another old 6 cylinder Subaru in the driveway.

Yes.

i installed a FWD legacy trans in a AWD legacy. bolted right up, plugged right in, didn't even swap the TCU. it was literally zero work - meaning the same work as swapping in the same trans, no different. it's about about 70,000 miles now and many years, runs great.
the XT6 is the same 4EAT platform and i wouldn't be surprised at all if you could do the same thing.

*** To verify all you'd have to do is compare the FWD and AWD wiring plugs at the TCU or transmission connector - get the two diagrams and it would only take a couple minutes to verify.
FSM's are available here for free download.

Here's how yo'ud do it:

1. install AWD transmission

2. install front half of the rear driveshaft. (this is simply to seal the rear output of the transmission so fluid doesn't come out where the driveshaft slides into it).
*alternately you could devise another solution for sealing the rear output, not a big deal, just need fluid to not come out.

3. lock the 4WD transfer clutches:
a. it may do it automatically since it's a FWD vehicle with FWD wiring.
b. cut the Duty C wire (if equipped) on the transmission harness - just one wire, snip and tape the ends.
(i've done this before too - disconnected the Duty C wire in an XT6 to run it in FWD. works like a charm.

keep in mind - that is speculation just from doing it with a legacy. XT6's were such small prodcution cars it would be hard to imagine them varying them much...but still specuation on my part!

Understood and thanks for the warning. But if the FWD with the bad tranny is cheap and low rust it is worth a shot. I have no other use for the transmission in the parts car. The other one sitting in my garage is a manual.

I think you can just remove the rear transfer clutch pack, and use the gear and rear housing off the bad FWD on your AWD tranny, to make it a FWD...

Wiring for the rear VSS is somewhat different. From memory the AWD transmission has an external VSS and external wiring harness. The FWD has the VSS internally and therefor no external harness. The bad transmission has the correct harness so just install it in the AWD.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Unfortunately I was too late and the XT6 was already sold. I'll have to focus on getting my other one back on the road.
