OK, who got the XT louvers out of PnP?

Postby RhodyM20 on Thu Feb 09, 2017 7:43 am

There was a clean 1987 Subaru XT Turbo at the Redding Pick 'n Pull in California that my friend sent me pictures of. It had the rare rear window louvers.

Unfortunately for me, I didn't see his picture in time and he had already left the yard. He went back today and the louvers are gone.

On the off-handed chance a NON-XT old-school Subaru owner snagged them in the interest of preservation, I would pay a healthy price for them immediately.

And if you're on here and got them, I suspect you're never letting go of them! But I call dibs if and when you do. :P

Ouch. Keep an eye on the local Craigslist and eBay. There is a chance someone, non XT owner, recognized the rarity/value and snatched the part to resell. Before reading your post, I would have bet money the rear slates no longer existed anywhere in the world. It was even 30 years ago a very rare part.

It kills me. The worst part is my buddy knows I like XT parts, but to him, the louvers didn't mean anything. So it wasn't until I saw the photo and fell out of my chair that I demanded he go back to the yard immediately.

I guess you've looked into a part number and searched that avenue?

I've owned about 20 XTs over 25 years now (owned my first XT in 1992), looked at plenty more, and I've never seen louvers in person.

I would love to find a part number but I wouldn't even know where to begin with regards to finding the manufacturer of said louvers. In the case of the XT, I'm sure there was only one....but I haven't figured out who the aftermarket supplier was. I highly doubt it was an OEM part, but if I'm wrong, I'm happy to be corrected.
