Silent blocks orientation in rear subframe

Postby Bram_R on Sun Dec 31, 2017 6:49 am

While pressing in the silent blocks in my powdercoated rear subframe, I wondered about the orientation of those blocks.

I did not find anything in the manuals, but after checking couple of other rear subframes, I noticed all the silent blocks were oriented in the same way.

See the pics to see what I mean. Basicly they're about 45 degrees rotated:

Following subframe installation, a question regarding location and orientation of the different washers:

First picture is showing the subframe installed under the car.

When bolting the silent blocks to the car, you got a long bolt, a metal washer, a rubber ring and a metal/rubber washer.
Does anybody know in what sequence and orientation these parts must be under and above the silent block?
I think I forgot to document upon removal

I don’t know, never pulled a subframe.

Does the FSM show?

Are these visible on a fully assembled car that we could go look?

Hi Gary,

The FSM shows the following picture (see reference numbers 20 and 24).
It looks like the staggered one should go at the underside, but not 100% sure if the staggered side should be on the top or at the bottom (looks like staggered side is up):

I've made extra pics of this position under the car. Not everything is torqued down, so not sure if it's as good visible on a car with all the bolts tightened.
If the staggered side should indeed be up, than I installed it wrong here...

If anyone has the opportunity to look underneath their XT in the next week, let me know if you can see any details on these rings under and above the front silent blocks of the rear subframe.

Thanks,

Bram

I was able to pull a subframe from another XT yesterday, this is how they should fit:

Bottom rubber washer: ribbed side upwards
Top rubber washers: ribbed side downwards

Ah, sorry, those bushings! I was thinking further up in an invisible area, like between the top of the rear subframe and body. I didn't know what "silent blocks" meant, and was thinking up between the subframe and body where they were visible. Those bushings hang down and can be seen, should have went and looked.
