Don't they have like an in-cabin air filter for smokers? That'd be pretty interesting, even though I don't smoke.

that sounds familiar. i think some have ABS as well, i've seen the bosses in the XT6 hubs and the down under guys have that, but i wouldn't want ABS. probably not the cabin filter either.

Their engine cover has "Flat-6" on them (if it's a 6-cylinder anyway  )
And they had the optional rear spoiler that we didn't get...

already have the FLAT 6 cover, like you do as well Huck.
the rear wiper would be cool but i fear it's only novelty so i'll resist that urge.

nothing wrong with a little novelty. I love rear wipers. in hatchbacks they are often needed and japan requires them on all cars (or did at least, I am not up on my JDM currently)

I'm thinking that installing the rear wiper would entail making a hole in the back glass. Also you'd have to relocate the 3rd brake light. Not huge deals, but I'm wondering if it'd really be worth the effort. Most of the JDM differences would be in the available accessories. At least from what I can tell frm pics of JDM XT's.

Oh yeah, they got different 4-lug wheels too. AFAIK the XT6's were pretty much the same, except for the Alcyone stickers.

Didn't they also get an ABS option? That would be nice, save money on insurance.

the NZ guys got ABS so i would assume the JDM did as well. i'd retrofit an EJ ABS system in place before i'd go with an XT6 ABS though. much easier to replace/source parts for in the future and probably a lot better. the early ABS systems were'nt as good as the newer ones. an EJ system would be much simpler to source and probably cheaper too. i can't imagine trying to source all the parts in japan for that - 4 sensors, tone rings, hubs?, wiring harness, abs pump, master cylinder, etc.

not sure they'd given insurance deduction for that. probably wouldn't be much would it?

I have a 1987 or '88 (or is it '89?) issue of "Motor" magazine from the UK that mentions ABS brakes on the XT6.

The few XT6s we got here were 2nd hand Jap imports any way so yes they are fitted with ABS.
My Black 1988 Black Vortex 6 (XT6) was a trial car for Subaru NZ and that was fitted with ABS aswell.
I found the ABS has worked quite well. Except when the sensor played up on a over bridge.. That was fun  But I still stopped in time :P

I love the JDM Alcyone XT6 furry floor mats with die cast badging on them.. I kept mine lol

The front side marker lens' were different for usa, japan, and euro/aus. The JDM ones are like the us ones but with a little bulge over the bulb and the euro/aus style ones were the diamond wedge style. There was the duck tail spoiler as mentioned, and the window visors/rain deflectors as accessorys.
They also had a yellow lens fog lamp accessory.
They also had the 14"x6" 4x140 alloy rim on the early alcyone vr's, we never got these.(same ones on the non-motorized tamiya model)

i have an opportunity to bring anything back from japan for no shipping costs but none of that sounds interesting enough to pursue. i looked into the subaru diesel engine but that's euro market only.
