There is a phillips screw at the bottom. I took the tensioner off to look and see how it works. I could not get it to turn.

Stupid drivers side timing belt tensioner

Well it was the drivers side timing belt that broke. Got a new one, car is all taken apart. Searched the posts and found good info on replacing the belt but could not find much on adjusting this stupid tensioner. So I can't get the new belt on. Help!

Hey guess what. i think it's my timing belt. i crank the engine but the distributer doesn't turn. I guess it's time to break out the old Chiltons manual and get to work. Any recomendations on a belt? I'll probably just order it through partsamerica.com(kragen) Thanks again for the helpful info.

Thanks for the help guys. I will check the belts tomorrow. I just got my wife to sign up for tripple A so I can get it towed home tomorrow.
I will keep you posted.
Merry Christmas!

Thanks, I'll have to look at that. The car is sitting accross town right now. They wanted $85 to tow it. Do you think it could be something like an air flow meter? I had the same thing happen on a 280z once and that is what it was.

Car just died on the way home

It's been awhile since I posted here. I guess that means I haven't had any problems. Well now I do. I was driving home tonight and my 88 XT6 just quit running. The lights and power are all still good, it cranks, fuel pump pumping gas but it will not start. Looking for ideas.
Thanks

Update on this. It turns out something got fried in the computer and now I need to replace it or rewire to come on with ignition switch. Anybody have a spare one laying around or know to get one cheap?

Thanks.
